The gliders of the Ox and Bucks’s gliders landed within yards of their objectives from 16 minutes past midnight on the 6th of June. The first allied troops to land and captured the bridges within 10 minutes. They lost two men, Lance corporal Fred Greenhalgh drowned in a pond where the glider he was in landed. Lieutenant Brotheridge was killed crossing Pegasus bridge in the first minutes of the attack. They were the first two allied soldiers to be killed on D Day.
